Who Gets the Master Bedroom?

When you travel as a throuple, group trips hit a little different.

We love going on trips with friend, beach houses, fincas, weekend escapes. But when the booking happens, there’s always that small unspoken moment: Who gets the master bedroom?

We usually do. Not because we ask for it, but because it just makes sense. Three people. One room. One bathroom to share. A little more space helps.

At our last finca stay just outside Medellín, we lucked out. The master bedroom had huge windows overlooking green rolling mountains. Every morning, the light poured in, and it felt like the perfect calm after long nights of dancing and laughter.

Still, planning group trips can get tricky. Especially when you’re not the one organizing. If someone else books the Airbnb, they might not think about bed sizes or layouts for a group of three. Which is fair, most places are set up for couples or singles.

But here’s what we’ve learned:

  • Be upfront early. If you’re a group of three, mention it before anyone books. It avoids confusion later.

  • Offer to help with the search. That way, you can find a place that fits everyone’s comfort.

  • Talk about fairness. If you’re paying the same amount, space and privacy matter too.

  • Stay flexible. Not every place will have a perfect setup. Sometimes, good energy is worth more than an extra bathroom.

We’ve been lucky so far, no drama, no awkwardness, just good friends and good vibes.

Group trips can be a lot to manage, but with patience and communication, they become some of the best memories you’ll ever make.

Because when everyone feels comfortable, everyone has fun.

TODAY’S TIP

Our Quick Booking Tip for Group Trips

When searching for Airbnbs or rentals, start with these filters:

  • King bed

  • Entire home or apartment

  • Minimum number of bedrooms and bathrooms you need

If supply looks limited, adjust from there but always start with your minimum requirements first. It helps you understand what’s realistic for the city or country you’re visiting.

It keeps things fair, comfortable, and drama-free for everyone involved.

Reply and let us know, we’d love to hear your travel stories.

How do you and your friends decide who gets the master bedroom on group trips?
